In January 2026, widespread blockades at key border crossings between Serbia and EU Member States caused significant disruption to the movement of vital automotive components. Shipments originating from the Balkan region, normally transported efficiently by road, were suddenly unable to pass through, putting major production lines at immediate risk.
To maintain the flow of essential parts and avoid costly shutdowns, our freight forwarding client in Serbia needed a partner who could respond quickly and therefore turned to Air Partner Cargo for a rapid, dependable solution.
The solution
Our Cologne based Cargo Team, responded at speed, working around the clock to organise a series of tailored cargo charter flights to keep supply chains operational. Because timing was crucial, the team quickly mobilised and leveraged key long-standing relationships with operators to arrange multiple flights from Belgrade to key automotive hubs across Hungary, Slovakia, and Germany, to ensure speedy and uninterrupted delivery despite the land border closures.
To match the varying shipment requirements, a range of aircraft types including AN26, ATR72 and A321F were deployed. The team worked at speed to manage every aspect, from securing last minute airport slot availability to handling all documentation and customs procedures. The mission wasn’t without its challenges, which included cargo handling issues and scarce airport slot availability, however the team worked diligently around round the clock to problem solve in real time to overcome these issues as they arose.
Finally, the team oversaw the storage of components during transit and arranged onward trucking from each arrival airport to final production sites. Thanks to this coordinated effort, this allowed key components to reach production facilities within hours of landing, ensuring supply chains continued to run smoothly despite the border closures.
